FRIEND-RAISING, LEADERSHIP THINK TANK
Our mission is to engage skilled and collaborative leaders who stimulate vibrant communities. Also, to inform and involve leaders who are committed to advancing the quality of life in the seven counties of Northwest Indiana.
Four Guiding Principles of SSLC Programs:
Offer Opportunities for Networking
Present the Most Current Thinking and Information on Critical Topics Facing the Region
Present Specific Opportunities to Build Leadership Skills
Always Present an Invitation to Act to Improve the Community
The South Shore Leadership Center traces its roots to the early 1990s, when a Lilly Endowment initiative was created to form community leaders. Northwest Indiana first experienced this initiative in the form of Leadership Calumet.
Over time different iterations have existed with LNI being focus of growth since 1990. The LNI program is now one of multiple leadership development programs under the auspices of the broad-based South Shore Leadership Center. In October 2016, SSLC became an affiliate of Purdue University Northwest through a collaborative partnership intended to jointly provide leadership development programming that enhances the economic, social and cultural well-being of residents from across the seven-county area of northwest Indiana.
The evolution continues as SSLC offers a new set of programs and opportunities for people to be informed and involved. Every program offered through SSLC endeavors to accomplish the following - offer opportunities for networking, present the most current thinking and information on critical topics facing the region, present specific opportunities to build leadership skills and always present an invitation to act to improve the community.
